LAY MISSIONARIES OF CHARITY - ST. PETER'S PARISH - DIOCESE OF VICTORIA
The Lay Missionaries of Charity Movement is an international association of Catholic lay people, both married and single, who strive to live their faith more deeply through the charism of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and who are intimately linked to the Missionaries of Charity with whom we are spiritually affiliated. We fully recognize the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and respect and obey its ministers.
BRIEF HISTORY:
The Movement was founded in Rome on April 16, 1984, by Father Sebastian Vazhakala, M.C., Superior General of the Contemplative Missionaires of Charity brothers, and in the presence of Mother Teresa. The Lay M.C. Movement was approved on February 25, 1987, by the late Ugo Cardinal Poletti, Vicar of His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, for the Diocese of Rome, and the Lay M.C. Movement has since been established in 54 countries.
MISSION:
The special mission of the Lay Missionaries of Charity is to work for the salvation and sanctification of members of their own families, first of all, and of the poorest of the poor wherever they may be found, by doing ordinary things with extraordinary love.
MEETINGS:
The Nanaimo Lay M.C. group meets every other Monday afternoon for prayerful study of Blessed Mother Teresa's charism and founding grace, the Lay M.C. statues, Church documents and letters of spiritual instruction from our superior Father Sebastian, M.C., headquarted in our Mother House in Rome.
PATRON:
The Lay M.C. patorn(s) and model of life and inspirations is the Holy Family of Nazareth.
